Another music meme

This I got from queenlyzard, who got it from chem_nerd

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 30 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing. (You can drop non-English or no-lyrics songs. I am also adopting queenlyzard's perogative to skip songs that other members of my family stuck in my library. Furthermore, to create more variety I am listing only one song per album/artist.)
Step 3: Bold out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 4: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

let me give this a shot
2) Oh crap, spacing on the title... it's by the Beatles though, isn't it?... damnit, I can sing the rest of the song!

3) So familiar. Can't place it. Ditto on #4... maybe I'm just tired.

7) "Another Saturday Night" by... well, the version I like is by Cat Stevens. I forget who did the original.

15) "When I'm 64" The Beatles

16) That creepy ass song from Donnie Darko! Uh... "Mad World". Don't know who it's by. Well, thanks, I won't be able to sleep tonight.

17) Oh hell, I should know this one too!

20) Led Zeppelin... um, is it "Black Dog"?

21) You fucking ROCK MY WORLD!! "Walk Through The Fire", from Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Once More With Feeling. I love you forever... or at least I forgive you for the Donnie Darko song.

25) Another one I think I should know.

Oh, I'll have to sleep on the rest of these... and I know I'll kick myself for half of them when I look them up!

2) is called "Day after Day", but now I'm not sure it's the Beatles... botheration. Who could it be? I am *so* lost here! And I may just have to give up on the rest of them... quite a few ring a distant bell, but nothing I can pin down.

Re: let me give this a shot
ok, I gave in and looked them up. I should have known 17 and 25, but actually, the rest are unfamiliar to me. I need to expand my musical knowledge.

Re: let me give this a shot
imho, everyone but everyone should know 7, 14, 15, 17, 20, 23, & 25.

Hip 20-somethings should also know 3, 4, 11, 16, 24, and 29.

Connoisseurs of classic rock must know 2, 12, 26, and 30.

The rest range from pretty obscure to impossibly obscure.

Re: let me give this a shot

Technically, I should fall into all the categories you listed here (well, except for the "hip" part, and I guess I'm more a fan of classic rock than an actual "connoisseur"... still)

*hangs head in shame*

Do I get any leeway for not having been introduced to music of any kind (well, except for the weird New Age stuff my Mom listens to) until almost high school?

Re: let me give this a shot
Yes, that definitely qualifies for mitigating circumstances.

Re: let me give this a shot
At least you got the title right. We'll give you half-credit.

Badfinger was frequently compared to the Beatles because many of their guitar licks, melodies, and harmonies were reminiscent of mid-60s Beatles. George Harrison produced some of the songs on the album Straight Up and actually played lead guitar on "Day After Day." (Todd Rundgren was also a producer on this fantastic album.) So, it's no wonder you were thinking Beatles.

All the best people

How do you know this obscure song?
Feb. 1st, 2007 09:25 pm (UTC)
I picked up the CD at a yard sale a while back because the album title, Escape to Paradox Island, caught my attention. While I was working on your meme, I couldn't remember the artist's name, and I couldn't locate the CD.

As one of my Illinois relatives might say, "Well, if that don't beat all!"

This might deserve a place in the strange coincidence file. Paradox Island was not a hugely successful CD, so what are the odds that you would find it in a yard sale in your area? "All the Best People" was one of the songs I was sure that nobody would recognize!

trange coincidence file
The strange coincidence file seems like a logical place;-) But, I really think this calls for The Twilight Zone theme song. If I knew how to do it, I would have included the tune in this comment.
