There is one question I often ponder when I read such accounts: How many times in the history of humanity has a theist shouted or chanted something such as "For the glory of God" upon killing another human being, and how many times has an atheist shouted "I don't believe in God!" when killing someone?
So much for the notion that religion is the foundation of moral behavior.
