Free Will and Libertarianism

I have been totally wasting my time the last couple of days reading about, thinking about, corresponding about issues that really interest me (like philosophy, religion, and politics) instead of working on the revisions to my invited article. Some of the results can be seen in the libertarianism community and the evol-psych Yahoo group.

I second that!
I've been unemployed since.... Jesus!... sometime in June. I have a list of productive things I can do with my time off. Really, I do. It's called "Productive Endeavors.txt". It contains all sorts of neat stuff like "Work on starting my freelance web design business". But instead, I find myself sitting at my computer for 8 hours at a time, some days, writing replies (read: essays) to a huge debate on a University of Buffalo forum about the ethics of Capitalism vs. the (supposed) ethics of Pure Socialism. Lord!

At least I think it's more productive then talking about Libertarianism to Libertarians. :-P But still, it's really just a huge waste of time. I mean, I'm learning a lot about my own philosophy when these socialists attack my arguments, but even if I convinced them that their objections to Capitalism are unfounded, I still have not put a penny in my pocket.

(Why can't I get paid to write philosophy all day?)

Re: I second that!
I try to rationalize my time-wasting behavior by telling myself that writing essays and engaging in debates hones my critical thinking skills.

Pretty lame.

Now, dammit, I have to get back to revising my course web pages.

After I follow-up on elusivebyte's other reply, that is. Whoops, look at the time. I need to head out to Rec Hall for pick-up basketball.
