No tools required

I can't help but glance askance at products for which assembly is advertised as:

No tools required!

Why is that such a great thing? Are there that many households that lack a basic set of tools (hammer, screwdrivers, set of wrenches)? Are there that many people who are incapable of handling such basic tools?

Or: Is there something evil about tools such that products whose assembly can proceed without tools will keep you out of hell?

I'm not getting it.

People don't know how to use tools anymore. Blame 100 years of public schools and the disenfranchisement of the independent individual.

Government will fix it for you. What do we need with tools?

i think it just saves lazy americans the few extra minutes it takes to go find the tools, blow the dust off of them, and figure out which ones do what.
