LJ hiatus

I'm not sure why I haven't updated here in nearly three weeks. Part of the reason might be going into semi-seclusion for a week to conduct the most comprehensive cleaning and reorganizing of my home office since I moved into it in 1992. Purging my file cabinets generated 10 grocery bags of paper to recycle. Every other item was examined and refiled into manila folders, labeled with a newly acquired electronic labeler, as recommended by David Allen in Getting Things Done. I now have almost nothing in pentadex hanging folders. I have no more piles of papers on my shelves or boxes of papers blocking my bookshelves. I finally dumped out nearly a full case of beer that I home brewed about 12 years ago but never drank because I went on the wagon for a few months. I emptied my in box, sorting all of my stuff into organized folders according to Allen's method. Now I feel on top of things and ready to face the world. That is to say, the first faculty meeting of the year, tomorrow.

I think a second reason I haven't updated in a while is that I am pissed at LJ for the way they suspended meta. His story is here: http://www.xciv.org/~meta/livejournal-abuse.html . We were in the middle of a great discussion on socialist libertarianism when he got suspended. While I can follow his life in his relocated journal, I can't respond to his entries. Free meta!

I like keeping my books and my computer pretty organized but my personal papers are in a mess. They're all stuffed in a leather carrycase. I've got to get to that soon.
