I Live

One fine spring day in college I was playing shortstop for Poplar House in Penn State's intramural league. The batter hit a very shallow fly ball that I sensed was catchable if I ran back at full tilt for an over-the-shoulder catch. Looking back over my shoulder, I did not notice the short fielder trying to make a play on the ball, and we collided.

After being unconscious for awhile (I was told later that it was a half-hour), I heard myself mumbling, "What happened, what happened?" and through a fog saw my teammates and the emergency medics from Ritenour around me, telling me that I was going to take a ride in the ambulance.

Today was very reminiscent of that day. I suddenly became aware today that I had been away from LJ for an indeterminable amount of time, and starting asking myself, "What happened?"

At least I am still alive.
